India records nearly 1.80 lakh fresh Covid-19 cases; active cases cross 700,000-mark

This is the fourth consecutive day when India’s daily tally has stayed above the 1 lakh mark.

In yet another huge spike, India reported 1,79,723 cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on Monday, as the Omicron variant continues to spread rapidly in the country, according to the data published by the Union ministry of health and family welfare (Mohfw). The number of active cases breached the 700,000-mark, the updated data also showed.

India is witnessing the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic as the virus is raging across states, leading to a spike in daily infections. This is the fourth day when India’s daily tally has stayed above the 1 lakh mark.

The number of Omicron also surged and now stands at 4,033, with Maharashtra recording the maximum number of infections (1,126). It is followed by Rajasthan (529), Delhi (513), Karnataka (441) and Kerala (333), according to health ministry.

The ministry also reported 146 new deaths, taking the total death toll to 483,936. After Monday’s fresh infections, the cumulative cases stand at 3,57,07,727.

The daily positivity rate soared to 13.29 per cent, while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 7.92 per cent, according to the ministry.

The national Covid-19 recovery rate decreased to 96.98 per cent, the ministry data also showed. As many as 46,569 people have recovered in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative number to 3,45,00,172.

As cases rise exponentially, Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya will chair a meeting on Monday to review the pandemic situation in five states and one Union territory (UT), news agency PTI reported.

The meeting will be attended by the health ministers of Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting to review the Covid-19 situation across the country where he directed the officials to speed up vaccinations.

Meanwhile, India began administering the ‘precaution dose’ of the Covid vaccine to frontline workers and senior citizens with comorbidities. Eligible beneficiaries can walk-in to their nearby vaccination centre and get the third dose, according to the Centre’s guidelines.

The guidelines also mandate the same vaccine to be administered to the beneficiary and no mix-match is allowed as of now. This means those who were administered with Covaxin as their first and second dose will receive the same as their ‘precautionary dose’, and people who received Covishield will be given the same vaccine again.

Fully lockdown unlikely in Karnataka

Amid rumours of a full lockdown in Karnataka, Dr C.N. Manjunath, a member of Karnataka’s task force, said it is unlikely. “The daily caseload is around 700-800 per day. It’s too early to impose a lockdown. I don’t think a full lockdown is needed now,’’ he said, but admitted that cases are likely to increase in the coming weeks.

“Omicron causes mild infection. However, the number of people getting infected is increasing drastically. It could choke the healthcare system,’’ he said.

Karnataka reported 23 new cases of Omicron on Friday, taking the tally to 66. Of the 23 new cases, 19 were international travellers.

Five of the new cases were children. One of them was a two-year-old boy who was not vaccinated. He travelled from Tanzania to Bengaluru on December 12 along with his parents. The others who tested positive for Omicron include a 10-year-old girl who flew from South Africa to Bengaluru, a 25-year-old man who is isolated in Bihar, a 33- year-old from Denmark, a 25-year-old woman who flew from the US to Bengaluru, a 47-year-old who flew from Nigeria to Bengaluru and a 15-year-old boy who flew from the US to Bengaluru.

Incidentally, the first two cases of Omicron in India were reported in Karnataka.

Manjunath said the central government has to take a call on whether international flights should be allowed. “In Europe and America, Omicron is the dominant variant. By January end or February, the same scenario might emerge in Karnataka, too,’’ he said. Currently a mix of both Delta and Omicron variants is reported in the state.

When the lockdown was imposed last year, commercial activities suffered a lot, said Manjunath. “Ultimately it boils down to the strict enforcement of guidelines. Measures like restricting gatherings, masking, putting cap on the number of guests at marriage etc are important.’’

Karnataka has imposed a night curfew from December 28. The state’s testing capacity has been increased significantly. “Now we conduct 1 lakh tests a day. More number of tests are being done in microcontainment areas. Measures are being taken to increase the state’s Genomic Sequencing capacity as well ,’’ he said.

Bengaluru Doctor With Omicron Tests Positive Again After 2 Weeks

Twenty-three cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been reported across the country. Maharashtra has reported ten cases, while Rajasthan has nine.

A 46-year-old Bengaluru doctor, who was among the first cases of Omicron in India, has again tested positive for Covid, a senior official said today.

The RT-PCR test was conducted seven days after his last test, as per the mandate issued by the Health ministry. He will be kept under observation for another seven days and be discharged only after a negative RT-PCR test.

The doctor, who had received both doses of the vaccine Covishield, currently has a lung infection, officials told NDTV. He had previously tested positive on November 22.

Karnataka was the first state in the country to report two cases – 46-year-old male and a 66-year-old male – of the coronavirus variant in India.

Five people who had come in contact with the Bengaluru doctor, who had tested positive, returned negative tests and will be discharged later today. The five samples had been sent for genome sequencing, the results of which are still awaited.

On Monday, the state government had also traced over 200 people who had come in contact with the two patients and tested them for Covid.

“Thirteen of the primary contacts and nearly 205 secondary contacts of the doctor were traced,” said Bangalore Municipal Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Gupta.

Karnataka has already approved two labs for genome sequencing and plans to ramp up testing. The state government has also sought the Centre’s approval for four more such labs.

The doctor was among the first two persons to be detected with Omicron in India. The other was a South African national, who was quarantined in Bengaluru and later flew to Dubai.

Police have registered a case against the South African national, who is a Gujarati by origin, for flying without informing the authorities in violation of the quarantine norms.

Twenty-three cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 have been reported across the country. Maharashtra has reported ten cases, while Rajasthan has nine.

The Omicron variant, which was first detected in South Africa, has spread to several parts of the globe but no deaths have yet been reported. Authorities worldwide are racing to determine how contagious it is and how effective existing vaccines are.

Game-Changing Made-In-India Anti-Covid Pills Could Be Cleared For Use In Days

The medicine is meant for adults who are at risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 or hospitalization.

Emergency Use Authorisation for the Merck drug Molnupiravir — an oral antiviral medicine for the treatment of mild-to-moderate COVID-19 — is likely “within days”, Dr Ram Vishwakarma, Chairman of the Covid Strategy Group, CSIR, told NDTV on Wednesday. The medicine is meant for adults who are at risk for progressing to severe COVID-19 or hospitalization. Another pill from Pfizer, Paxlovid, may take some more time, he added.

The two drugs, he said, will make a difference and “as we move from pandemic to endemic, these are the ones which are going to be more important than vaccination”.

Calling the drugs the “final nail in the coffin of the virus by science”, he said, “I think Molnupiravir will be already available to us. Five companies are sitting with the drug manufacturer… I think any day we will have approval of Molnupiravir”.

Data for Molnupiravir has been “sitting with the regulator” here before the UK regulator’s approval, he said. “So already SECs are looking at it. And I think they will they will get faster approval now. And therefore, it would it be safe to say that within the next one month, there would be a decision on approval for the Merck drug”.

Pfizer has said according to clinical trial, its Paxlovid cuts the risk of hospitalisation or death by 89 per cent in vulnerable adults.

Merck has already contracted five companies “and the way Merck has given this license to several companies, Pfizer will also do because Pfizer will have to utilise the Indian capacity to manufacture the drugs that are required for the global use”.

The cost, he said, will be far lower than the 700 dollars that’s being considered in the US for the Merck vaccine “because in America it is costly for various other reasons and not for the manufacturing cost”.

“I think here when the government of India comes into play, they will buy in bulk from these companies and of course, they will have a dual pricing system and a staggered pricing system,” he said.

He said it might initially cost “2000 to 3000 or 4000 rupees per cycle of treatment, then it will come down to 500 to 600 or 1,000 rupees”.

Only Buy Baby Cereal Online When Your Baby Is Ready

Pediatricians recommend that pediatricians introduce solid food to the baby at least after six months have passed. Before your child hits that stage, it is advised strictly that the children should be on breast-milk.

However, while many are pushing the conventions, there remains a lingering question in the heart of the new mothers, “whether it is okay or not?”

That is what this article intends to do, to answer questions like whether it is the right time to buy baby cereal online?Whether we should introduce the child to solid food or not?

Signs That Tell Your Child Is Ready For Solid Food:

Ensuring that your children are ready for the intake of solid food is crucial before you go on to organic multigrain cereal for babies. The best way to do so is by following certain indications to help you analyze his intentions towards taking solid food.

Generally, when the baby has developed the skills to consume solid food, the cereal should be mixed with the diet. Though doctors recommend that breastfeeding should be continued until the age of 6 months, some babies get prepared sooner than later.

Here are some suggestions that might clarify the confusion regarding ‘should I feed him the cereal or not?’

  • Normally, to properly digest the food, one has to eat it while sitting down. A child learns to sit down appropriately between the age of 4 to 6 months old. It is one of the general indications that might give you the green signal to try easy solid foods like applesauce.
  • If you see that your baby has ceased the natural tongue-thrusting reflexes, then it is time to introduce solid food at this age.

Point to be noted: The tongue-thrusting reflex is a behavioral pattern that prompts the baby to push out unfavorable food out of his mouth as quickly as someone has put it inside. Nonetheless, this reflex stops at the age of 4 to 6 months mark.

  • If you see your child becoming more and more enthusiastic while looking at others try sumptuous foods, it is time to help them out with healthy and nutritious solid foods.
  • If they open their mouth whenever food approaches is another sign that you should keep in mind.
  • When they have mastered the oral motor skills, they must move the solid food past the throat and swallow it. It is one of the essential things that have to be done.

You have to generally wait for your baby to at least turn four months old before approaching him with solid foods. Giving your children solid foods before he is ready heightens the risk of him suffering from obesity and other health issues.

Conclusion:

If you see them performing any of the activities mentioned above, then it is time for you to buy baby cereal online. We suggest that you start with organic rice cereal or oatmeal cereal for your children as it is mild in taste and high in fibre, and iron-fortified. So what are you waiting for?

PM Modi On 3-City Vaccine Tour, Zydus Cadila Plant In Gujarat Is First Stop

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit India’s top vaccine hubs today to personally review the development of coronavirus vaccine and the manufacturing process. The visit, PM Modi’s office said, was meant to help him get a “first-hand perspective of the preparations, challenges and roadmap in India’s endeavour to vaccinate its citizens”.

PM Modi began his three-city vaccine tour with a visit to pharma major Zydus Cadila’s plant near Ahmedabad. The plant is located in the Changodar industrial area, over 20 km from Ahmedabad. PM Modi will be at the plant for an hour, an official said. The drug maker has announced that the first phase of clinical trial of its COVID-19 vaccine candidate, ZyCoV-D, has been completed and it commenced the second phase of clinical trials in August.

From Ahmedabad, PM Modi will fly to Pune where Serum Institute of India (SII), which has partnered with global pharma giant AstraZeneca and Oxford University for a COVID-19 vaccine, is based. PM Modi is expected to review the status of the vaccine, including its launch, production and distribution mechanisms during the visit.

The Prime Minister will then travel to Hyderabad and visit Bharat BioTech, which is working on Covaxin, pitched as India’s first indigenous vaccine candidate. The Prime Minister is expected to reach at 3:40 pm and after a visit to the facility between 4 and 5 pm, he would fly out at 5:40 pm.

“As India enters a decisive phase of the fight against COVID-19, PM Narendra Modi’s visit to these facilities and discussions with the scientists will help him get a first-hand perspective of the preparations, challenges and roadmap in India’s endeavour to vaccinate its citizens,” the Prime Minister’s Office tweeted yesterday.

On November 24, Prime Minister while speaking with Chief Ministers of various states over the deteriorating pandemic situation in their states at a virtual meeting advised the states to establish cold storage facilities for COVID-19 vaccine beforehand and suggested them to prepare and send a plan for its distribution to the Central government.

This morning, India reported 41,322 fresh COVID-19 cases, 4% lower than on Friday, taking its overall number to 93.51 lakh cases and 1,36,200 deaths. The states of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala were the most affected ones, with deaths ranging from 23 to 85 in the past 24 hours.

Bringing quality healthcare in hinterlands of UP, Niira Radia among key change-makers in Indian healthcare

While there have been some positive indications in the healthcare sector of India, it also faces serious shortcomings. From tackling major epidemics, to finding solutions for life threatening diseases which were otherwise deemed incurable, the country has made extraordinary feats. Despite that, lack of accessibility of quality healthcare and unaffordability are some of the major challenges that the common man has long been and is still facing.

Considering the magnitude of these challenges, it is impossible for government to solely resolve it. Therefore, it is imperative that healthcare providers, policy makers, leaders and healthcare companies collectively devise strategies to strengthen the overall healthcare system. Whether it is leveraging technology to maximise output, upgrading skilled workforce at areas in need or minimising the cost of treatment, there are several measures that can be taken. All these can in turn help in increasing the accessibility as well.

Uttar Pradesh for instance is one of the poorest states in India and its healthcare sector also faces a major demand-supply gap. Result? The need of people to travel for miles to nearby metro cities to acquire treatment with an added travel expense on their heads. “Day in and day out we see harrowing tales of people traveling great distances at great financial and emotional expense, just so that their loved ones receive the right medical treatment. Many times, they are too late in finding the right healthcare provider, and end up losing a family member or friend,” said Niira Radia, Chairperson of Nayati Healthcare. Witnessing the plights of these people, she took up the initiative of setting up Nayati Healthcare there which later turned out to be one of the fastest growing private chain of hospitals in India.

Ever since its inception, the healthcare chain has been making quality medical care accessible to the residents of Uttar Pradesh in and around Agra, Mathura and Braj, most of which are densely populated yet poorly provisioned. Niira Radia’s effort has significantly helped in bridging the lurking gap in healthcare sector of those regions and it is because of her that today, people no longer have to worry about availing treatments especially during emergency situations.

To bring change on a maximum scale, it is important for both the government and private sectors to develop partnerships and Nayati Healthcare has been collaborating with local state authorities and initiating awareness campaigns and organising medical camps across various communities. With India striving to bringing quality and affordable healthcare to all, leaders like Niira Radia are among the frontrunners in this revolution.

Macwin pharmaceuticals echoed its success by launching quintessential Veg Wash + product

“Survival of the fittest” theory by Darwin come to the fore during this ubiquitous pandemic. At present it is a Hobson’s choice to keep yourself fit both physically and mentally for any challenges. This may take a week, a month or an year. We all should be sincere, determined and optimist enough that we can easily allow any alteration to creep in our lifestyle. Changes in food habits are a need of the hour and the initial step towards healthiness.  Ditching unhealthy food, drinking lots of water and consuming fresh fruits and vegetable will definitely pick- you -up to win this combat. All these habits drastically ramps up your immunity and lay off the mood swings due to stress and increase your viability.

Aptly consumption of fruits and vegetables is an art nowadays. Fruits and vegetables is a natural habitat for various unwanted microbes, especially in the pandemic time, which leads to creep in discrete number of diseases and cause health hazard. Various gems and other impurities are present on the skin surfaces of the fruits and vegetables which can be a cause of an infection.  Washing the fruits and vegetables with water gives only a false sense of security.

The sky is the limit for the Macwin, after room spray the company launches one more disinfectant product for fruits & vegetables

Ramping up our innate immunity is a need of the hour. Fresh and clean fruits and vegetables are the primary source for boosting immunity and they keep various infections at bay. But cleaning the fruits and vegetables only with water before consumption is not a smart option nowadays.  Various gems and other impurities are present on the skin surfaces of the fruits and vegetables which can be a cause of an infection.  Washing the fruits and vegetables with water gives only a false sense of security.
